Nostalgiczny spacer/ Nostalgic walk

Born to takie zagłębie ludzi o korzeniach artystycznych.

By potem zagubić się w labiryncie uliczek i odkryć fajne graffiti.

Last Saturday, when it was too hot even to go to the beach (yes, it really can be that hot), and any normal person would stay in an air-conditioned room, I  decided to go for a walk around Born. At least I was wise enough not to take my cam as every object seems to weigh too much in an infernal summer heat. Instead I played with my iphone applications. I am pleased with the result (more photos in the gallery Walking tours on my facebook page), as the nostalgic atmosphere is what you get in Born, one of my favourite neighborhoods. Please, don’t ask me to decide if I prefer Born, Eixample or Gótico, as I like every one of them for totally different reasons.

Born is a bohemian district with are many little stores selling vintage clothes or labels by young designers. Its streets are narrow, perfect to get lost, pass under tiny balconies with laundry hanging outside, discover some cool graffiti on the run-down walls or doors.

The center of the district is the Passeig de Born where life happens in cafes and bars. Born has a few tourist attractions, such as the Church of Santa Maria del Mar or the Picasso Museum. And if you want to try Catalan cava, there isn’t better place than El Xampanyet.

Długi spacer/ Long walk

Potrzebuję projektów i zmian.

Get ready that next post are going be monotonous, I am having a lot of ideas and photos on Barcelona. Still, there are stories from Portugal, Amsterdam, Paris, Granada that I wanted to share with you. But my free time is limited lately, so I have to prioritize stories. And since my blog has Barcelona included in the name, this city has to come first.

Today I will take you on a virtual walk through the Passeig de Sant Joan. Taking as many walks as possible is my new project for the upcoming month. I need projects and changes. As you have notices, there have been some small changes on the blog already (do you like white background and bigger photos?), and I will chare other bigger changes in due time.  Wait patiently.

I took the first planned walk last Wednesday, and my choice was Passeig de Sant Joan. So many times we were going down from Gracia through the Passeig by bicing, and I always found it interesting. There are so many nice buildings, graffiti, big trees. And wide sidewalks make it perfect for pedestrians too (cyclist have their own line as well), then add cafes, playgrounds for kids, benches for getting some rest or to gossip. Passage of Saint John is very green, thanks to the trees it is really shaded which is more than appreciated during the hot days. There is also a nice  small square on the Tetuan square, called Dr. Robert Gardens (Jardins del Doctor Robert).

Passaige begins at the Arc de Triomphe and ends at Travessera de Gracia, If you half an hour to spare, it is really worth walking this distance. You shold stop at number 108, where a beautiful Modernist building  ofthe famous Catalan architect Puig i Cadafalch is located.  There is an interesting decorative element: figure of a cyclist on a column at the front door and a peasant on a donkey (I think) on the other side.

Another building worth mentioning is the public library Arús (at number 26), I already mentioned it in a post some months ago. But as you can judge by the photos (at least I hope you agree), there are plenty of nice buildings. More photos on Facebook, in the album Barcelona walking tours

Have you enjoyed the walk? Do you share my love walking?
