Spacer po Gracia/ Walking around Gracia

Gracia- plątanina ulic, w których zbyt łatwo się gubię. Gracia- niezliczone bary i restauracje. Gracia- urocze sklepiki, wystawy, które zachęcają, by kupić jakiś mały drobiazg. Gracia-ogródki barowe na placach ( Virreina, Sol, Vila de Gracia). Gracisa- udekorowane ulice i tygodniowa impreza w sierpniu podczas Festas de Gracia. Gracia- dzielnica artystów, hippisów i wszelkich barcelońskich dziwolągów.

Mieszkańcy Gracia mają silne poczucie odrębności, do XIX wieku było to bowiem odrębne miasteczko. Mimo, że wydaje się głęboko katalońska, coraz więcej obcokrajowców decyduje się zamieszkać właśnie w tej części miasta. Znajomych mieszkających na Gracia niezwykle ciężko jest wyciągnąć poza granice dzielnicy, przez Patri dość często ostatnimi czasy mamy okazję spacerować po tej przesympatycznej i modnej dzielnicy i poznawać jej sekrety.

Zapraszam dziś na krótki spacer od Passeig de Gracia, przez serce dzielnicy, aż do Parku Guell.

Passeig de Gracia- jedna z najbardziej (obok Rambli) znana ulica Barcelony, to tutaj znajdują się 2 zaprojektowane przez Gaudiego budynki, La Pedrera i Casa Batlló. Adresem na Psg. De Gracia mogą pochwalić się też butiki najbardziej znanych i ekskluzywnych marek, jak Dior, Chanel, Vuitton… Tutaj mieszkała bogata klasa mieszczańska, dzięki temu możemy spędzić długie chwile na podziwianiu pięknych architektonicznych detali, misternie wykonanych witraży, bogato zdobionych klatek schodowych.

Gracia zapełniona jest mniejszymi i większymi placami. A jak w Hiszpanii jest plac, to znaczy, że znajduje się na nim kilka barów. W słoneczny dzień nie ma nic lepszego niż kawa/piwko/tapas/drink na tarasie, gdy promienie słońca muskają nam twarz.

Dla lubiących oryginalne ubrania, artystyczną biżuterię, alternatywne sklepiki, Gracia jest rajem. Do tego pięknie wizualnie witryny i niebanalne nazwy, po prostu trzeba wejść choć na chwilę i dać się skusić na jakiś drobiazg.

Do Parku Guell, gdzie zachęcam zakończyć spacer po Gracia, już was zabrałam, a dziś zapoznam was z mniej znanym budynkiem Gaudiego, Casa Vicens. To jedno z pierwszych dzieł wielkiego mistrza, znajduje się prze ulicy Carolines 24-26, rzut przysłowiowym beretem od Gran de Gracia. Tłumy turystów tu nie docierają, co pozwala nam w spokoju podziwiać detale budynku (nie jest on niestety otwarty do publicznego zwiedzania),

O barach i miejscach, które lubimy, będzie przy innej okazji (o kilku już pisaliśmy, więc zapraszam do przeszukania archiwum).

Gracia- labyrinth of narrow streets, where I tend to get lost too easily. Gracia- countless bars and restaurants. Gracia- charming boutiques, with cute window decorations that invite you to enter for a moment and buy a small detail. Gracia- terraces on charming squares (Virreina, Sol, Vila de Gracia).Gracia-decorated streets and a week long party in August during the Festas de Gracia.

Gracia-district that attracts artists, hippies and all freaks of Barcelona and surroundings. Gracia residents have a strong sense of individuality, as till the nineteenth century it was a separate town. Even though many catalan families lives here, more and more foreigners choose to settle in this part of the city. And if yours friends live here, you have to remember that probably they won’t meet you for a drink outside of Gracia, as they find it extremely difficult to leave its borders. Since Patri lives here, we tend to spend quite a lot of time wandering the streets of this charming district.

Today I invite you for a short walk from Passeig de Gracia, through the heart of the district, till Park Guell.

Passeig de Gracia, one of the most famous (next to the Rambla) and elegant streets in Barcelona. This is where two buildings designed by Gaudi, La Pedrera and Casa Batlló, are situated. Most famous and fashionable brands such Dior, Chanel, Vuitton has their boutiques at this prestigious address. On this street is where a rich bourgeois class used to live, now we can spend a long time admiring the beautiful architectural details, stained glass windows, richly decorated staircases.

Gracia is full of nice squares. And a square in Spain equals at least one bar with few tables outside. On a sunny day there is nothing better than having a coffee/coffee/ tapas / drink on a terrace when the sun warms our face.

For those who like original clothes, artistic jewelry , alternative shops, Gracia is a paradise. Many visually beautiful window shops and their original names just invite you to enter, just for a little while, just to buy a little thing.

As I already took you virtually with by photos to Park Guell, where our walk ends, today I will show you another work of Gaudi. Casa Vicens is one of the earliest and less known buildings of this great Catalan master. It is located on Carolines street, a few steps from Gran de Gracia, but only few very determined tourists make it to see it. Thanks to their ignorance, one can enjoy watching the architectonical details, although only from the outside, as the building isn’t open to public.

In this post I’ve deliberately skipped the part with bars and food, as you could already noticed, eating deserves a separate entry (there are already some posts about spots we liked in Gracia, you can check the archive).

Palau Guell

Nie miałam szczęścia z Palau Guell. Przy mojej pierwszej wizycie w Barcelonie kilka lat temu, trwał remont. Przy drugiej wizycie, trwał remont. Po mojej przeprowadzce do Barcelony… remont się skończył. Gdzieś się dowiedzieliśmy, że w 1 niedzielę miesiąca wejście jest za darmo, postanowiliśmy nie przepuścić tej okazji (bilet wstępu kosztuje 10€). Można powiedzieć, że kolejny raz powiedzenie „do trzech razy sztuka” jest prawdziwe. Przy pierwszym podejściu okazało się, że wejściówki na rano (czyli do 13.30) zostały już rozdane, okienko zamknięte i trzeba wrócić o 13.45. Niestety, niebo, które przejaśniło się dosłownie na pół godziny, zasnuło się chmurami i lunął deszcz. Wróciliśmy do domu, z planem powrotu w następną pierwszą niedzielę. Ale warunki atmosferyczne znowu nie były sprzyjające, nastały najzimniejsze dni, syberyjski front, nie uśmiechało nam się stanie w kolejce. Za 3 razem, nie udało nam się uniknąć kolejki, 4 marca, udało nam się do Palau Guell.

To jedno z pierwszych dzieł wielkiego Gaudiego (tak, uwielbiam. Tak, wiem, że Barcelona to nie tylko Gaudi) mieści się tuż przy Ramblas, przy wąskiej uliczce Carrer Nou de la Rambla. Budowa pałacu, rezydencji mecenasa Gaudiego, Eusebiego Guella (tak, to też ten od parku) została ukończona w 1890 i pewnie elita barcelońska zaskoczona była, że Guell wybudował się w dzielnicy marginesu (te bary, kabarety, panie lekkich obyczajów), a nie w nowobogackiej i modnej Eixample. Do dziś Raval pozostaje dzielnicą i nienajlepszej sławie.

Wykonanie projektu nie było zadaniem łatwym, Gaudi do wykorzystania miał niewielką działkę, ale wykorzystał ograniczoną przestrzeń po mistrzowsku. Gra świateł, dbałość o detale, przepych dekoracyjny, mamy tu wszystko. Zwiedzanie zaczęliśmy od stajni, a skończyliśmy na dachu. Charakterystyczne kominy Gaudiego są rozpoznawalne na pierwszy rzut oka. Jednak to światło jest najważniejszym elementem w Pałacu. Gra światła odmienia całkowicie wnętrze budynku, jego charakter zależy czy dzień jest słoneczny, nocą zmienia swoje oblicze. Główna klatka schodowa zwieńczona jest przepiękną kopułą, wygląda jak niebo przybrane gwiazdami.

When it comes to Palau Guell, I was never lucky (even now when writing this post my PC went down so I lost all my English part of the post and had to start over). When I first visited Barcelona, I had an ambitious plan with my sister to enter/see all the touristic attractions our guidebook recommended. However, the Palau Guell was being renovated. On my second visit, the renovation continued. After I moved to Barcelona, I accidently saw on the news that the Palau was re-opened to public after years of renovation and that the entrance is free on every first Sunday of the month. That is when we decided to visit it, just to save 10€ of the entrance fee. This time again, third time was lucky. The first Sunday we wanted to enter, we found out that the entrance tickets for morning visits finished, and that we had to come back once the box office opened, that is 13.45. But as it started to rain heavily, we decided to go back home and postpone it. The second time, once again, the weather was against us. This time due to the Siberian front we gave up the idea of freezing our asses in a long queue and stayed in a warm flat. Finally, on 4th of March, we managed to get in, on our 3rd attempt. And it was worth every minute of waiting in 2 queues, first to get the entrances and second to actually get inside.

The Palace is one of the earliest works of the great and famous Gaudí's (yes, I love his architecture. Yes, I know that Barcelona is not only about Gaudi’s creations) is located just next to touristic Ramblas, on a narrow street Carrer Nou de la Rambla. The building was designed to be a residence for rich patron Eusebi Guell (yes, the same that ordered him to design Park Guell) and was completed in 1890. The elite of Barcelona was probably quite surprised where he decided to built it, as instead of trendy and fashionable Eixample, where all the upper class and new riche lived, it was in a dodgy neighborhood. You know, bars, cabarets, prostitutes- you get the picture. Even now Raval is still not famous for being pretty, clean and safe.

Once again, Gaudi created a masterpiece, and the project wasn’t easy to make. The plot of land was really small, but somehow the limited space, thanks to the light and architectonical tricks, seems bigger than it is. We started our tour in the stables and ended on the roof, admiring Gaudi’s distinctive smokestacks. However, it is the light that plays the most important role in the Palace. It changes completely how the building looks, its character depends on whether the day is sunny or cloudy, and during the night it can be unrecognizable. The dome that dominates in the main staircase looks like the sky adorned with stars.

Dom kości/ House of Bones

Lubię spacerować po Passeig de Gràcia, na ten spacer zabiorę was przy innej okazji. Dziś zatrzymamy się przy numerze 43. Nie ma wątpliwości, na pierwszy rzut oka rozpoznać można kreatywność Gaudiego. Już sama fasada budynku- falista, mieniąca się różnymi kolorami, balkony przypominające maski albo czaszki, sprawiają niesamowite wrażenie.

Wchodzimy do środka (wiem, cena potrafi być zaporowa, ale raz można zjeść kanapki zamiast kolacji/ lunchu w knajpie) i nic nie przypomina zwykłej kamienicy. Drewniane balustrady i żyrandole zainspirowane motywami roślinnymi, pofalowane sufity, w całym budynku nie ma chyba ani jednej linii prostej. A do tego gra światła, w zależności od pory dnia witraże filtrują światło różnej barwy i natężenia, sprawiają, że przenosimy się do magicznej krainy.

Wnętrze, jak i fasada, mieni się odcieniami zieleni, błękitu, żółci. A to dzięki mozaice z kawałków szkła i ceramiki. Klatka schodowa z kafelkami w różnych odcieniach niebieskiego, balustradą z grubego przezroczystego szkła oraz owalnymi oknami, wygląda jakby wyjęta z jakiejś bajki o podwodnym życiu.

Morska flora i fauna była zresztą jedną z inspiracji Gaudiego przy renowacji tego budynku, kolory fasady to naturalne kolory korala, żyrandol przypomina jakąś skamienielinę, dach rybie łuski. Dach ma podobno przypominać smoka, ale moja wyobraźnia zawiodła mnie i niestety nigdzie tego podobieństwa nie mogłam dostrzec. Przyznam się jednak, że mogłabym godzinami patrzeć na kominy. Zresztą są one tłem mojego bloga.

Barcelończycy nazywają czasami Casa dels ossos, czyli Dom Kości. Balkony mogą kształtem przypominać czaszki, można też dostrzec kolumny wyglądające jak kości.

Mam nadzieję, że podobała wam się wycieczka w bajkowej krainie śladami Gaudiego.

I like to have a walk on Passeig de Gràcia, but that on another occasion. Today,we stop in front of number 43. At first glance, you can recognize that this building is creation of Gaudi’s creativity and architectonical genius. The first time I saw a wavy and shimmering façade with balconies that looks like masks or skulls, I was highly impressed.

Let’s enter inside (I know that the fee is overpriced but I think once you can have a sandwich for dinner / lunch and you won’t regret), and nothing looks like in a normal building. Wooden rails and chandeliers are inspired by floral motifs, undulating ceilings and oval windows, it seems as if there is not a single straight line in the whole casa. And when you add the play of sunlight that varies depending on time and enters with different intensity through colorful stained glass windows, you feel like in a magical world.

Both interior and exterior shine with countless shades of green, yellow and blue thanks to mosaic made of broken glass and ceramic tiles. The staircase with tiles in various shades of blue, a balustrade made of thick transparent glass and oval windows, it all looks like taken from a fairly tale about underwater life.

Marine life was indeed one of Gaudi's inspiration in the renovation of this building, the colors of the facade are natural colors of coral, one of the chandeliers reminds me of fossils, roof seems to be made of fish scales. The roof is supposed to resemble a dragon, but my imagination failed me this time and I don’t see any dragon. But I do admit that I could admire the chimneys and all the details on the roof for hours. As you could notices, those chimneys are the background of my blog.

Barcelonians sometimes called it Casa dels ossos, which means the Bone House. Balconies really have the shape of a skull and you the columns the shape of the skull, you can also spot the columns that look like bones.
