Słoneczna niedziela w Spiddal/ Sunny Sunday in Spiddal

Potrzebujecie słońca, morza i plaży do wyboru idealnego miasta, w którym chcielibyście zamieszkać?

In Ireland on a sunny day you can do everything except stay at home. So even though on Sunday  we woke up exhausted after the pub crawl and watching our first rugby game on a stadium, we knew we couldn’t just lay on the sofa watching tv series. Anyway, it’s not my thing, when I see sun, I feel this pressure to be active. And we don’t know if we will be lucky to have many more rain-free weekends, so instead of risking, we just got in the car and went to explore what Galway county has to offer. For now, we only visit places that are quite close, as Nuno doesn’t really like driving with the the steering wheel on the wrong side.

Nuno has mentioned  on numerous occasions that he can’t imagine living permanently in a city that doesn’t have access to the sea. For me, born and raised in Bydgoszcz, too far from the seaside to go there more than few times a year (and that if I was lucky), sea isn’t something that would influence my decision of choosing a city to live in. But by pure coincidence, both Galway and Barcelona have access to the beach. There is just a tiny difference, a sunny weather that allows the sunbathing for few months on one of them and  for few days on another. Take a guess and match the beach with the city. Anyway, sunbathing isn’t the only thing you can do on the beach, and I actually enjoy even more strolling down a deserted beach. It was a reason good enough to go to Spiddal, a small fishing village, located about 20 miles from Galway.

There is fishing port, marina, small cemetery and charming white house. Nothing  more, but still it is a delightful little village. And after the hustle and bustle and crowds of tourists in Barcelona, peace and lack of famous monuments can be quite a nice change. And tranquility is what you find on the beaches near Galway in October, not counting few families with kids and dogs, they were deserted.

Check out the facebook gallery for more photos from our sunny Sunday escapade to Spiddal, and like it if you still haven’t as it is there where I post a lot of photos and information about our travels and life in Ireland.

Do you like Irish beaches? Do you need beach, sun, sea to help you choose your perfect destination?
