Ja chcę widelec! / I want a fork

Since I read Neus’ post on a friendly blog on Barcelona related topics (she covers some interesting places, so if only you speak some Spanish, check her website), I knew we had to go to La Xina restaurant (especially taking into account Nuno’s addiction to Asian food). Of course, now that I need a link to the specific post, I can’t find it, but believe me, she recommended it and she was right, once again. Restaurants from the famous Tragaluz are not the cheapest ones (but the décor is always interesting and unusual), which is confirmed by many reviews on tripadvisor. So once we got a day off and could choose a menu del dia for 15 € (still not the cheapest available, but affordable) that included first and second course (be aware that servings are for not hungry ones, and we fall into this group after 10 days of eating way too much in Portugal) and a symbolic dessert. The food was decent but I suffered a lot while eating with chopsticks. Nuno has a lot of experience (I always asked for a fork while in restaurants where you should eat with chopsticks), so he was laughing at me when half of the rice landed first on my plate instead getting directly to my mouth. I suppose that if I lived in China, for the first weeks I would become extremely slim, as it would take me forever to finish a meal and half of the food would never make it to my mouth. Still, I managed to eat and I am proud not to ask for a fork (not that they even offered me one and for sure they saw me struggling with spicy chicken wings).

The restaurant itself has an interesting modern design (located next to the most touristic spot of the city, the famous Ramblas), with the kitchen on display and a big paper dragon (pictures taken with the iPhone really don’t show the beauty of the interior, so if you are interested check their official website, you can also have a look on the menu, and the prices –so that you go prepared). The great drawback is a rather unpleasant service, but it seems that in Barcelona you have to get used to the staff being rude (not that we accept it). La Xina is a good alternative (but more expensive) to the typical Chinese restaurants.
